Hypermobility and
Ehlers Danlos Syndrome
Silver Splints for Hyperextension
How We Approach Hypermobility and EDS
Our arms and hands help us complete many of our daily activities. However, daily participation can be compromised when hands are prone to dislocation and subluxation due to joint hypermobility, pain, and stiffness because of arthritis or weakness and decreased range of motion due to hand injuries. As we age, the effects of these upper body ailments become more apparent, demonstrated by dislocations and arthritis in the finger and wrist joints, muscle atrophy from disuse, and anxiety due to anticipated pain.
At Hand Wellness OT, our occupational therapists specialize in hand, wrist and finger issues that result from connective tissue disorders such as Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome or h(EDS).
We address pain, joint instability, muscle weakness, and decreased range of motion caused by h(EDS), Hypermobility Syndrome, Arthritis, and other debilitating finger, hand, and elbow conditions, as well as making recommendations for preventative measures.
Staffed exclusively by occupational therapists who have chosen to specialize in Hand Therapy, we use our expertise to help you continue or get back to your desired activities.
Let’s get started
Our client-centered hand therapy program is accessible through our various services options, which include in-home occupational and hand therapy services for the North Shore of Long Island areas (Manhasset, Great Neck, Roslyn, and surrounding areas) and Telehealth services throughout the state of New York. We collaborate with you to create a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan that can include custom orthotics, home ergonomic assessments, education, and evidence-based treatments.
